there are no competitors when we are fighting for peace
Yesterday I attended the National Youth Summit on the Sustainable Development Goals in Melbourne. There were 100 delegates from many youth organisations and associations that were fighting to implementing the SDGs in Australia. We had an amazing panel from representative from Oaktree, Oxfam, YGAP, the Australian UN Youth Leader as recognised by the UN Envoy for Youth, and the University of Melbourne Student Union.
I was so grateful to be there, knowing full well that a conversation amongst youth and our collective role in the SDGs has been needing to happen for some time now. However, as pure as our intentions may be, it was not as beautiful as it seemed on the surface.
Deep down, I felt something was wrong. We still view each other as competitors.
Whether it is that we do local volunteering, education to young children, tackle local issues or lobby the government - we are all striving for peace and a better world by 2030. However, organisations are trying to do everything and take over as much market share as possible (in funding, partners, youth engagement etc.) in their mission. They want to be "the" best at implementing the SDGs - and maybe AIESEC has been guilty of this too. We are no better or worse than any other incredible organisation working on the SDGs. We are confident and in love with the unique way we choose to contribute - developing youth leadership and global citizenship through cross-cultural exchange programs.
Because there are no competitors when we are fighting for peace.
Have a think about how you are working with universities and your myriad of societies on campus to raise awareness on the SDGs and how young people can take action. Our Global Citizen program is our amazing contribution towards Peace and our unique way of taking action on the SDGs. Let's focus on collaboration, cross-promotion, because no one can do this alone. Let's amplify our message, let's be effective and efficient in making change happen! #partnershipforthegoals #sdg17

Official EXPA Standings this semester
(1st aug - 18th OCT)
We're now into October - what inferences are you getting from these numbers?
oGC:
400+ have applied for an opportunity! However what's stopping them from moving into being approved? What do our customers really need right now to move them through the funnel during this peak period? Do they need us to follow up with the Sending Entity? Do they need us to share them stories about past exchange participants that have been to those countries? Do they need to know more about how exactly AIESEC will develop their leadership? Let's put ourselves in our customers shoes and really focus on the things that matter.
oGT/E:
Good job to UWA and UQ who increased in applicants and approves in the past week! How can we continue to move our customer through the process, how do we package our GE and GT opportunities in a way that is attractive to the EPs? How are we listening to our customers and then showing them that our products are actually the solution? [ You'll be surprised with how different EPs are attracted to different parts of our products] Let's learn, share and grow together- speak to each other and from our end we will be hosting some sharing we think LC's will be interested in.
iGT:
During these past weeks of October we haven't had updates in our actuals from the ICX network, which means that we cannot give any inferences to our processes.
Please update the tracker and I would be more than happy to provide inferences tailored to your LCs.

Well done to AIESEC in UQ, AIESEC in UNSW and AIESEC in UWA for making top 20 LCs in East Asia Pacific for oGT! And congratulations for AIESEC in UNSW for being #8 in East Asia Pacific for iGT!

NATIONAL YOUTH SUMMIT ON THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
On Monday 17th October Layli and Monica from the MC and Mel, Lily and Hien from AIESEC in Monash attended to the National Youth Summit on the Sustainable Development Goals. Along with 100 invited delegates representing youth-led and youth-centred organisations, we came together to talk about how our organisations can work together to implement the SDGs in Australia and overseas.
The outcome? First, we wanted a platform for youth organisations to collaborate and amplify our work on the SDGs. And second, we wanted inclusion of youth in key decision-making arenas regarding the SDGs - for we are not only the leaders of the world in 2030 but also the leaders of the present.
We look forward to partnering with these amazing organisations and their networks for a cross-sectoral and inter-generational discussion at Australia's YouthSpeak Forum on the 30th November 2016. Let's show Australia the voices of youth in our country and how we want to take action on the SDGs!
