There’s a table in our national office with the parting words of past presidents. This line, etched into the wood of the president when I was a member of AIESEC in the University of Melbourne, stands out it in my mind.
It constantly reminds me how, yes, we know that time is short and yes, we know we need to act, except sometimes even one year, one month, or the two weeks we have until the end of May, our last and best chance for winter peak, things don’t always feel within immediate grasp.
That conversation that should have been had, that action space we should have held, can still slip into tomorrow, the next week, the month after until it’s too late.
So for me, it always comes back to significant leadership through exchange as our main thing. That with every news piece of cross-cultural misunderstanding that crosses my feed, I am reminded that this is what we strive for in AIESEC to make our own contribution for a better world. What have we done to bring ourselves closer to that world, today?

WIG 1 - Increase Open to Applicant Conversion from 5% to 15% by May 31st
- Current Open to Applicant conversion is 3.45%
- On average, we’ve been increasing by 0.24% in OP to APP Conversion, over the last 7 weeks → This seems to be more from Organic rather than Strategic, even though Campaigns have been targeted to OP to APP Conversion and Applicants
- In order to send people on Exchange, and make a significant impact, we need to improve our Open to Applicant conversion, and that starts now!
- We should already be at 100% implementation as of now as the infrastructure for performance management should be embedded.
- Congratulations to Monash, UNSW and QUT for reach 100% of the WIG 2 implementation checklist! woo!
- Ask your LCP / VPTM on what you still need to get there to help the entity progress forward!
- It's crucial that we remember the essence of this WIG - it is here so that we can see what we need to do in order to engage, develop and enable our membership to achieve

Rejection.
The SDG seminar/networking event I attended this morning discussed how senior management have a lack of buy-in for things like SDGs - even the phrase "SDG" is viewed in a light of "that's not for me," "we don't need sustainability."
One of the key points was discussed around how, we first need to communicate how someone understand.
Just like how, as a CFO, I should not explain things only how I understand it, but to explain in a way how my audience would understand.
It seems very basic, but every email we send out, every meeting we have - how often have we used language only we know best?
How often do we actually tailor what we mean by pnf to the company itself to give a damn - because I believe in the product, every rejection is painful because I don't believe the receiver has understood my email.
Logically, nobody would be against SDGs and leadership development in youth.
It is how important you make it for the receiver.
Talk about the profit and cost-effectiveness, talk about how we will handle all the logistics, talk about how these days organisations need to have a purpose beyond profit.
